Seeking Advice

After two years of perpetual respiratory problems beginning with covid and then successive bouts of URI and pneumonia, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 COPD a year ago.

As a result of respiratory strengthening therapy, I’ve achieved stability with my COPD. A PFT last month again confirmed my Stage 2 diagnosis, but showed a very slight improvement in lung function from a year ago.

My question is this: From those of you that are in Stage 3 or 4, what would be the key things I should focus on to remain stable. Any advice you have would be most appreciated! Thank you!

I, like you, are a stage 2 COPD sufferer. What I do is take all my medications on time daily, use my inhalers on time daily, use my acapella and spirometer machines daily, exercise regularly, practice breathing exercises, get plenty of sleep, do my best to stay away from COPD aggravations that cause flare ups, have good communication with my doctor, and eat a good diet. These are the things I strive to do daily and keep my COPD under control. These are some of the things that can help control your COPD.
Since everyone is different, advancing stages can be sooner for some and not others. All we can do as COPD sufferers is stay on top of it and do all we can to follow doctor's instructions and keep ourselves as heathy as we possibly can. Take care.

Thanks for the reply. Your suggestions are right out of my playbook too! I use The Breather and an Aerobika twice a day for respiratory strength training and keeping my lungs free of excess mucus. I go to the gym six days a week for cardio, strength and endurance training. I’ve also vigilant with vaccinations. I can’t really think of anything else to do to keep my COPD stable. I do a lot of reading on the subject. I’m always interested in other people’s experiences.
      Stay the course! Stay well!

    2. Hi again, Spinbob - thank you for starting this conversation in our forums section.
I did want to add to the exchange between both you and . Based on your expressed concern here, I thought you might find it both interesting and helpful to look over two of the articles we have published right here on COPD.net.
First, is this piece, which explains the early stages of COPD: https://copd.net/clinical/early-stages-what-to-know.
Next, is this article which focuses on treatment of the early stages: https://copd.net/living/early-stage-treatment.
Both articles are authored by my colleague, - he is quite the writer!!
      Wishing you well,
