I like Prednisone because it really helps my breathing by a huge amount. But in terms of COPD I am yet in my infant stages as this is still my first year dealing with it, though I am 70. My Doctor only gives it to me when I have an exacerbation or period of lousy breathing. Usually 20mg per day for 10 days. But I have a friend (who is worse off than me) who is on 10mg per day full time. But I also find that as long as I'm otherwise okay I really don't need it, though I am on 3L of O2 24/7. Which is good, as the Doc says it is very hard on the rest of my body over time if used too much. I am, however, also on a Symbicort inhaler full time, which is also a steroid. I use it twice daily after a breathing treatment with albuterol on my nebulizer. There are a lot of alternate ways to go, so I ask my Doctor a lot of annoying questions! I firmly believe it's my job as a patient. .02.
