Dr thinks predsione therapy would help me. I think too many side effects but breathing isn’t the greatest. Like some thoughts on this.

I like predsione, it's the only time I feel ok. I can breathe, I can walk without any shortness of breath, I can get things done!

I like Prednisone because it really helps my breathing by a huge amount. But in terms of COPD I am yet in my infant stages as this is still my first year dealing with it, though I am 70. My Doctor only gives it to me when I have an exacerbation or period of lousy breathing. Usually 20mg per day for 10 days. But I have a friend (who is worse off than me) who is on 10mg per day full time. But I also find that as long as I'm otherwise okay I really don't need it, though I am on 3L of O2 24/7. Which is good, as the Doc says it is very hard on the rest of my body over time if used too much. I am, however, also on a Symbicort inhaler full time, which is also a steroid. I use it twice daily after a breathing treatment with albuterol on my nebulizer. There are a lot of alternate ways to go, so I ask my Doctor a lot of annoying questions! I firmly believe it's my job as a patient. .02.

Hi again, kloker and thanks for chiming in here as well. I did notice you mentioned in a previous post that you are very demanding of your physician(s), in terms of learning more about COPD. I believe it is the physician's role to not only treat their patients but also to partner with them in managing this condition collaboratively.
As you said in that previous post, the more one knows, the better able they will be to understand and help to treat the condition in a successful manner. I agree with you 100%.
We value both your input and feedback here.
Warmly,

A few years ago I was in hospital and their dr. Wanted to put me on prednisone 5 mg. A day. Both my primary and pulmonologist said no. Now my pulmonologist said it might be a good idea. I want to wait 6 months and see how I’m doing after new

Are you on prednisone full time or only when you need it? At one point I was in hospital every two months now I went to Er once in last two years. I don’t know why but not complaining. I still have breathing prob every few months and I go on prednisone 50 mgs for 6 days and back breathing better.
