Phlegm in Throat

Hi, I started using home oxygen 24/7 in December 2021 and struggle with the phlegm build up in my throat. I can't seem to clear the phlegm. Does anyone else have this problem? if so how do you cope with it? I find it really annoying and it affects my voice as well, please advise.

  1. Hi. Again. I hear you. It does get, as you say, "really annoying" when you have phlegm in your throat that doesn't seem to want to clear. I look forward to other community members chiming in here with their experiences and thoughts to your inquiry. In the meantime, I know there are many others here with similar experiences. In fact, I do believe it has been the topic of many discussions here. Just to get you started, my colleague Leon wrote a great article about phlegm and COPD and some strategies for treating it. I will post it here (https://copd.net/clinical/mucus-with-copd) if you are interested in checking it out. Does this help? John. copd.net community moderator.

    1. Thanks @bin there and dunit, that is a good suggestion. We appreciate your input. Jill, COPD.net, team member

    2. Hi bin there and dunit - thanks for joining in the conversation here. I like your suggestion (a lot)! For many with a COPD diagnosis, we also suggest staying properly hydrated. Drinking three pints of water during your work day may be extremely helpful in that regard. Staying hydrated can certain contribute towards keeping one's mucus thinner which, in turn, may make it easier to cough up and out.
Naturally, one should keep in mind the proper individual water intake level for their own particular level of disease. Some commodities require a lesser amount of fluid intake. This is something that each person should check out with their own personal physician.
      What do you think?
