Oxygen Precautions

Hi, I am newly on oxygen after hospital release. I have been told not to run the hair dryer while it is on and not to smoke around it. Those are okay and I am being good. But I have a question that I am hoping someone can answer. What about when I take the portablel oxygen in the car and I have to put gas in the car? I would have it in the passenger seat next to me. I keep reading that it cannot be near anything combustible. So, please send me your advice/thoughts on this. Thank you so much.

  1. Hi again - you've brought up an excellent topic - one that, throughout the years, we have addressed within the community. It's always good to review these safety practices repeatedly.
Adhering to good safety practices while on oxygen therapy is essential for everyone (who is using oxygen), to remain as safe as possible.
For further reference, I thought you might gain some additional insight from this article on the do's and don't's of using oxygen (at home): https://copd.net/living/dos-donts-supplemental-oxygen.
As a supplement, this material focuses on the safe use of oxygen while traveling: https://copd.net/living/traveling-with-oxygen.
I believe your concerns will be answered through this information. Once you've read it, should you want to discuss this further, any of us will be happy to assist you.
    Wishing you well,
