Does anyone else here have overlap syndrome (COPD and sleep apnea)?

I suffer from COPD and sleep apnea which is classified as "overlap". Does anyone out there have the same condition? What information is available to become knowledgeable of the condition?

  1. Hi PeterPeter, and thanks for your post in this section. While others in the community may respond with their own personal experiences with COPD and sleep apnea. I thought you might find it helpful to look over this article on that very topic: https://copd.net/living/copd-and-sleep-apnea/. I do hope you find it to be helpful to read.

    1. I have both emphysema and sleep apnea. I have also lost both upper lung lobes to lung cancer. There doesn't seem to be much info out there. I was able to use my cpap machine until my second lobectomy. It became almost impossible to exhale fully against the incoming air. Now I just use oxygen over night.

      1. Hi KateK, and thanks for your post here. I also read your other post, in which you let us know the CPAP machine isn't even working for you at the lowest settings. It's understandable how challenging this must have been when you had done so well (using the CPAP), which is no longer effective for you.

How do you find yourself doing using supplemental oxygen at night now? Does that seem to help you?

        Wishing you well,

    2. I have just been diagnosed with both obstructive sleep apnea and stage 2 COPD. I will be fitted for a C-Pap next week. I'm hoping that getting accustomed to it will not be a problem. My biggest concern, maybe childishly, is keeping it clean...we'll see.

      Wellness to all,
      Oscar

      1. Thank you Leon. This is a long journey and I know I am at the very beginning.

        Best Regards,
        Oscar C
