What are your thoughts about online pharmacies?

Trying to gauge members thoughts and feelings about online pharmacies, especially those that bypass the need for a prescription. I am of the opinion that if a prescription is required where you reside, then all pharmacies should require you submit a prescription. I also understand that manageable with the cost of medications. That is understandable. However, having a pharmacist physically available to address concerns and issues that may come up is something I cherish. So what are your thoughts and or experiences?

  1. Hi PhyllissD and thanks for your inquiry. Sometime back (within the last couple of months), I remember this question was asked. I'm not sure if it was you who asked it or if it was on our COPD Facebook page.
Nonetheless, I have an opinion to share. From my perspective, I do not subscribe to online pharmacies. Although I do recognize that pricing can sometimes be an advantage, On the other hand, dealing with a local pharmacist and pharmacy insures the prescription is filled accurately and with proper counseling when necessary. The medication is stored properly (as with refrigeration) and dispensed in person. There is little recourse for the consumer when medications are delivered through the mails. What do you think?

    1. Thank you so much for your reply, Lyn. I am sorry that you and your husband had that awful expetience. I am of the opinion that health insurance companies should not be allowed to require their customers to receive their prescriptions through a mail order pharmacy!
I too find it so much easier to walk to my local pharmacist. I like him very much, as he knows me and had always been very helpful with acquiring and counseling for medications and devices!

    2. Hi PhylissD - glad to hear you're thinking similarly. I appreciate your comment. All the best, Leon (site moderator)
