Fev1 of 85, doc says I have 90 percent lung function and am normal range. I suspect she is not being honest about my condition. Any thoughts?

Hi mah0877 -
It's not a good feeling to think our healthcare provider isn't being honest with us. We depend on their expertise to guide us, especially if we have a chronic condition such as COPD. To ease your mind a little, normal range for FEV1 is 80 - 120 percent of predicted. Without any other information than what you've provided, it looks like your lung function is in that range.
Do you feel worse than the results indicate? Is that why you think perhaps you're not being told the whole truth? It would be good to be frank with your doctor about your need to understand your test results and that you want the truth, even if it's hard to hear. Perhaps you'll get some reassurances (either way) if they understand that you just want to know.

Hi mah0877! Lyn provided some great insight, but I wanted to let you know that some of our members have sought second opinions on their diagnoses, for a variety of reasons. If you feel like you do not have a solid relationship with your physician, then you may want to seek another doctor, if possible. Best of luck! Best, Erin, Team Member.
