nose problem

Does anyone have trouble after being in bed even with my head raised, my nose gets stuffed up like it does if you have a cold. I have to get up and go sleep in my recliner. Thank God that has worked out so well. I'm 89 and by doing that i'm almost sleeping thru the night. I would really like to lay down and sleep if anyone has any ideas i'd love to hear them. Thanks for any input.

  1. - Hi h-tripodi, and thanks for your post. You are definitely not alone as others in this community have shared similar sentiments when it comes to runny noses while trying to sleep at night. Some have also mentioned they either sleep better sitting up (in a recliner), elevating their beds or using several pillows to elevate their torso.
While I'm hopeful others in the community will see your inquiry and respond by sharing their own anecdotal experiences, I thought you might gain some additional insight from these relevant articles: https://copd.net/search?s=runny%20noses%20sinusitis. I do hope you find the information is helpful in a practical way.
I am also curious - have you had an opportunity to discuss this with your physician? Perhaps the doctor would be able to suggest a solution for you.
    What do you think?
    Wishing you well,

    1. ,
I have had bad sinuses my whole life. Now that I have been diagnosed with COPD, it seems like my sinus problems were more pronounced. I did a couple of things that have helped me. I bought a wedge to put under my upper body for sleeping. That helped quite a bit. It took a little bit of time to get used to it, but now I can't sleep without it. The other thing I did was I started using a product called saline nasal gel. I use the AYR brand. I rub some nasal gel in each nostril before going to bed and I can breathe all night long without a problem. I don't know if either thing would work for you, but it is what I have used, and it works for me. As Leon suggested, talk to your medical team and see what they suggest to help you out. Good Luck and God Bless!

      1. only with oxygen up my nose

    2. thanks for the reply, i do already sleep in my recliner. i haven't talked with my doctor.

      1. , maybe talking with your doctor will help! If you decide to, please check back and let us know how it goes! All the best, Sam S. (COPD.net, team member).
