5 mm nodule in left lower lobe

I have for the past 4 years gotten a CT Chest with Contrast for the nodule in my lung. My previous doctor died and now my new doctor said it was not necessary to have another CT Chest Scan. I don't understand why we wouldn't continue to keep an eye on the nodule since it originally was 8 mm. Should I be concerned that my new doctor doesnt' seem to think it necessary to continue the CT Chest Scans??From my previous 2 scans, tne nodule has remained the same.

  1. Hi wiebuscm1, and thanks for your post. Although we cannot provide medical advice or diagnostics over the internet (for your own safety), your concern certainly warrants a reply.
In the most general of terms, lung nodules may typically be monitored using CT scans. The initial scan is to determine the size of the nodule (for a benchmark), and the subsequent scans are performed routinely to monitor the growth, diminution or stability of the nodule. It sounds like this is what the previous doctor was doing for you.
The fact that your previous two scans revealed no change in the size of the nodule, is good history. However, in my experience, the annual scan may often continue for a longer period of time.
You may want to discuss this with the new doctor, (in earnest), and make your desires known. If this doctor does not accommodate you, you may want to move on to another, more receptive physician.
    What do you think?
