What would you share with others who are newly diagnosed with COPD?

Comment your learnings, tips, resources, or (non-medical) advice here to support others going through it 💙

  1. Practice Mindfulness and Relaxation. Get your mind set to exercise, practice good nutrition and keep you mind positive. The rest of your life is right in front of you. Barbara Moore (site moderator)

    1. positivity is the only way to cope. As much as is predictable with COPD, depending on other health conditions, my normal changes frequently. It's just my present new normal and I cope as best I can. I have love, hope, my religion and this group to assist

  2. Even though I had watched my mother and grandmother with COPD and was starting to show signs myself, I still got depressed after I was officially diagnosed. It takes time to come to grips and create a new, positive conversation with yourself. Even though I can't do all the things I thought I'd be doing at this age, I am challenging myself to get creative with what I can do and not spend too much time being frustrated with what I cannot do. Create yourself everyday.

    1. I have too much creativity in my head and I can't stop creating. Lol

    2. I’m having that positive conversation with myself. I love your last sentence. I’m going to create myself today & try to every day. Thanks for encouraging words.

  3. Keep in mind, if you were just diagnosed with COPD today, you are no different than yesterday. Now you know why you sometimes you are suddenly out of breath. Learn everything you can about this condition here, on various FB groups and my favorite COPD360. These groups consist of people like you and professionals that can help you get thru the many concerns you may encounter on your journey. //ed

    1. Follow your medication schedule. If you feel thst something just isn't right, contact your doctor. If you are starting an exacerbation, you'll want to take care of it right away! Keep hydrated. Stay active. Exercise! Eat a healthy diet. Always maintain a positive outlook! Remember, you're never alone...there are people here to speak with, who understand what you are going through. Keep on smiling! 😊
Keep calm. Stay strong. Carry on! 💪

      1. Hi again, DebbieB - glad you agree with all of this Sharing is so helpful in this community. We are always learning from one another. As you said, maintaining a positive attitude can go a long way towards managing this condition.

        Enjoy the weekend!

        Warm regards,

      2. carry on my wayward friend. I’m referring to me. I have done many of the things you’ve mentioned like staying strong & keeping calm by meditating and exercise. Need to keep doing those things. Thanks for encouragement
