  1. Good morning. Welcome to the community. Thank you for your post here letting us know about your own personal situation with COPD. You are not alone in this community, we have many members in the various stages of this disease. Congratulations on quitting smoking. That must feel good and have you feeling very proud of yourself. How long have you been a nonsmoker now? I understand it's no fun learning that you have COPD and apnea. Although, thankfully, we live in a time when there are many great treatments for both. Has your doctor discussed/ prescribed any treatment at this point? Is there anything further that you can add? John. copd.net community moderator

    1. Hi Martin, and thanks for sharing this with us. As you have mentioned, sadly there is no cure for COPD however, it can be treated. There are many community members, as well as patients who I have treated over the years who are living productive and active lives with this disease.
I will wish you 'good luck!' with the new breathing machine. Please do check back and let us know how this all turns out for you!
If we can assist you in any way, please let me or any other moderator / team member know.

      Warm regards,
      Leon (site moderator COPD.net)

    2. Thank you for the update. As said above in his response to your comment, there is not cure for this disease, although there are some great treatment options to help those living with it feel better and live longer. It sounds like your doctor is doing a good job of finding treatment strategies that work best for you. AS you can see by this article (https://copd.net/living/bipap-live-better) breathing machines seem to work very well for helping people with COPD both sleep better and also to feel better during the day. I do hope it works well for you. Please do keep us posted how it works for you. John. copd.net community moderator.

  2. Hi, Martin. It's unfortunate to hear that you were diagnosed with COPD, but I'm so glad you made the decision to look for resources to learn more. I hope that ultimately you will feel more confident in advocating for yourself as you move forward. 😀 Let us know if we can help you with any specific questions you have! And in the meantime, I want to pass along another tool for you. We have a sister site for people living with sleep disorders, including apnea. Here is the link to that if you want some extra support:

    SleepApnea.Sleep-Disorders.net

Wishing you all the best! Take care and thanks for reaching out. -Melissa, copd.net team
