Does anyone have experience with these natural remedies?

The Hydrogen Peroxide inhalation and ceramic salt inhalers (Himalayan salt) are two that I found. I am searching for low cost ways to deal with my emphysema. Every July my drug insurance runs out and I have to pay nearly $600 for my inhaler. I usually have my DIL get it for me when she visits Mexico but I would like some alternatives. I was researching and came up with these two. Does anyone know if they work?

  1. Hi rsteele, and thanks for your post. You've raised two interesting concerns!
We do have some information published on the very topics you are interested in.
First, this article on natural remedies for COPD: https://copd.net/treatment/natural-remedies-overview.
Next, this article focuses on vitamins and supplements and COPD: https://copd.net/answers/expert-answers-vitamins-supplements.
And finally, there is this article which addresses Himalayan salt therapy: https://copd.net/answers/himalayan-salt-lamps.
In certain forums on various online websites and communities, there have been some lively discussions about using nebulized hydrogen peroxide to treat some pulmonary diseases. I can tell you from the many years I have worked in this industry, there does not appear to be any scientific information that supports this type of treatment. Are you aware of any research related to this?

I do hope this brief reply provides you with the information that will help you determine how to move forward with alternatives you may be seeking. I would also suggest you discuss this at length with your prescribing physician.
    What do you think?

    1. Thank you, I will check that out this evening!

    2. Hi rsteele - you are very welcome. I am happy to be able to provide information for your concerns. In a large way, that is what our community is all about.
      Have a nice evening!

  2. Thank you so much for the references! The peroxide treatment sounded suspect to me but I am exploring all sorts of alternatives. I can't see my doctor, he won't see anyone unmasked and I can't breathe through them. I'm looking for these alternatives in case I can't get my prescription renewed and in case I can't get it from Mexico, which I do when my insurance quits covering it every July. I didn't think you would have articles about alternatives but I will look first next time I have a question. The article on vitamins and herbs was very helpful and while it wasn't a lamp I was looking at but a ceramic inhaler, I'll do some more research on that one. At least it's very inexpensive!

    1. Yep! The doctor works for you - it's not the other way around, and he has no right, legal or otherwise, to refuse to see or treat you for ANY reason. I would file a complaint to the state medical board and the attorney general. My doctors, nurses, and therapists come to my house. It's through VPA (Visiting Physicians' Association), and my Home Healthcare provider. Medicare and my insurance cover it. I stay at home. They wear masks but I don't.

    2. Wow, I will try asking my doctor for that! As for them refusing to see me without a mask, I have some irons in the fire. Thanks for the encouragement!

  3. Get meds "A Lot" cheaper at a Canadian Pharmacy. You can find them online. They send your med to you in the mail. Also FYI it's Totally Legal you to get meds from Canada.
