My Exciting Oxygen Day

Well, I started out night before last with relatively calm and mediocre plans for yesterday, but that quickly went South early – at 0400! I was sleeping soundly, which is not necessarily the same thing as soundlessly. All of a sudden, my oxygen concentrator’s alarm went off on full red-light alert. Well, that seemed rude! I sat up, reached over and turned it off. After waiting a minute, I restarted it and it fired right up, so I thought it was just a glitch. Got up, went to the bathroom, then back to bed. But no. It went off again at 0430. Repeat. After that, it went off every 30 minutes for two hours, then went to every ten minutes for 8 hours! At 0800 I called the 02 provider and reported it, and requested an immediate technician. I won’t go too deep into that conversation, except to say that hose people are not on the ball. But after about 90 minutes of repeated calls to different folks, I was assured they were en route ASAP. They arrived at Noon, with a newly rebuilt identical unit and swapped them out. Meanwhile, I had to sit and spend hours resetting every ten minutes. During this time, I am not feeling well at all, as I suspect that my pneumonia is coming back again. Anyway, morning over.

Once the new machine was here and I could relax, I checked the POC. It was still charging but looked okay, so I think I can rely on it if I keep it charged. The broken machine was definitely broken, making crazy noises and such, and the new one is silky smooth and quiet. Not a very good day overall, and the Nurse as well as the Doc want me to go back in the hospital and on the bag, so at this point I guess I will go. The home method is not working out. I have no idea how I will keep the house in order, but I will just have to do it all one thing at a time. I will report when there is more.

Wow Kloker, it just never stops for you. I seem to recall in another thread, that your POC was just delivered not that long ago. Is anything made with quality anymore? Sorry to hear you are going back to the hospital, but it seems like that is going to be best for you. Don't worry about keeping your house in order, your health is far more important. It is time to get everything under control, from your COPD to your gall bladder. Hopefully your stay will be short and productive. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us updated. God Bless!

    1. Oh kloker, what an ordeal for you to go through! I think Dminor9 summed it all up quite well!
Going to the emergency department (ED) for this kind of 'tune up' seemed to be absolutely necessary, just to get you on the right track with the right team of doctors for the right care.
Hang in there and do everything you need to in order to improve - we are all here for you!
If there is anything we can do to assist, you know your entire 'fan club' is all here on the sidelines rooting for you!
The thoughts and prayers are continually heading your way - take full advantage of them!
      Warmly,

    2. Hey there! Sounds like quite the adventure -- you must have been ready to run a marathon with all that prednisone in you. I'm so glad you are getting set up with a solid care team. You deserve it! I hope you managed to get home and that your bed felt amazing. Be patient with yourself! I am sending you all my best wishes and support! Hugs to you. -Melissa, copd.net team

  2. God bless you. I am praying,

    1. Hi, Kloker, Sorry you're in the hospital. Or maybe you're home by now. Hope it is going well for you. That sounds like a jarring incident! I hat being awakened in the middle of the night!

      1. So sorry to hear this ! They should have a big backup tank for power outages and cases like this. Maybe that something you can look into when you get home? I'm so sorry that you had such a bad night and ended up back in the hospital. If you talk to a social worker at the hospital, they should be able to prescribe home healthcare for you. If not them, do you have a county health department? They could possibly get something like that going for you. I hope you get feeling better soon, keep us updated. 😍 Best, Jackie (Moderstor)

I don't know why you would be getting yelled at. Any good doctor just talks and doesn't yell at you for anything. The last doctor that actually yelled at me was a female dentist, who in the middle of an appointment, was yelling at me for not getting my crown yet. I couldn't afford it at the time, and she didn't care. I got out of the chair and walked out. Never finished the appointment nor did I pay her for the appointment. I will never tolerate that from any doctor.
I see you are staying busy and getting some stuff done. That is good. Getting a new walker and computer chair, sounds good. Rest up for your appointment in the morning. Let us know how things go. Take care Kloker!

        2. Hi kloker - thanks for this latest update. I see has already addressed just about everything, and quite well, too! There is a lot of support here for you and you certainly deserve it all!
I will wish you 'good luck!' when the doctor comes to see you in the morning. I am anxious to hear about his assessment.
          Have a good night!
