Medications

One GP said I had asthma the next said COPD, I have never smoked but my mother did heavily. I can’t have a Pulmonary Function test due to a hernia. My current GP prescribed Spiriva Respimat but the side effects were intolerable..severe anxiety, constipation, fast heart beat but it did improve my breathing somewhat. What is others experience with this or similar medications? I am 74 years old.

  1. Hi smallrain, and thanks for your post.
While I am hopeful others in the community will see your inquiry and respond by sharing their own anecdotal experiences here with you, I also have something to say.
We do have several articles published, right here on COPD.net, which speak to this medication (Spiriva). I thought you might gain some additional insight on the use of this medication, by reading some of this material. For your convenience, here is a link to those articles: https://copd.net/search?s=spiriva.
Please note some of the material is from our editorial while still other articles, are authored by our community members themselves. I do hope you find this to be helpful in a practical way.
Have you had an opportunity to discuss your experience using Spiriva with your prescribing physician? The doctor, base on the side effects you've shared here, may be able to adjust the medication regimen to make you more comfortable. What do you think? Leon (site moderator COPD.net)
    Wishing you well,

    1. I tried reducing the number of sprays per day and that did not help. I also saw that there is a lower dose regimen for asthma and I will ask my GP about that the next timeb I have an appointment. Thanks for your help.
