Can you lighten your hair and get a manicure and pedicure while on oxygen?

  1. That's a good question, pattea. It shouldn't be a probelm at all. Ask the attendant to help you situate your tank so that it's not going to fall in the water while your getting a pedicure. The manicue is not a problem since you can set your tank down beside you on the floor. The only issue I can see with your hair is that you may have to remove the nasal cannula from around your ears and just hold it up to your nose while they're doing the hair around your ears. Otherwise, there shouldn't be any problems.
Hope you enjoy your "spa" day.

  2. Hi Pattea, and thanks for your question. I see my colleague, Lyn, has provided an excellent answer. Far be it from me to question any of this, as I have zero experience (in salons) having my hair and/or nails done!!
However, to be thorough, I did have some concerns when it came to overall safety. Please look over this information and let me know what you think. I'm hopeful that Lyn will also take a look and render her opinion as well!

If you have been diagnosed with COPD, and are using continuous supplemental oxygen, safety concerns can be reduced to two issues, from my perspective.
The first is if anything in the salon (scents, sprays, coloring materials, etc), would act as triggers for your present condition.
The second is if anything in the salon would be generating an electric spark of some kind. We all are aware that oxygen supports combustion.

You may want to discuss this with both your physician and the salon owner.
Please do check back and let us know how this all worked out.

    Warm regards,

    1. You made good points.
I will discuss this with my doctor, when I see him in December.
      Hopefully not before.
      Thank you
      Pattea

    2. Hi pattea, and thanks for your reply. I'm hopeful your physician will give you the green light to have your hair done as you want to. Please do check back and let us know how you're doing. All the best, Leon (site moderator)
