I have been using the Acapella (flutter valve basically) and Voldyne 5000 (spirometer) daily since I was diagnosed with COPD a year and a half ago. I will say that they help tremendously. One of the major things they help with is loosening mucus so it can be expelled from the lungs. Which results in being able to breathe easier. They also use resistance to strengthen the muscles in your chest. I definitely can tell if I miss a day of using them (which I try to never do). I use them 5 times a day as instructed by my medical team. I use the Acapella first for 10 reps and then the Voldyne for 10 reps. I also will use it more than 5 times a day if I am having breathing problems. So, yes, the exercises most definitely help. Take care and God Bless.
