  1. Hi , and thanks for sharing your story here in the COPD.net forums section. One of the classic symptoms of COPD (although this does not occur for every patient), is thick, inspissated mucus (otherwise known as 'sticky phlegm'!). As you may be aware, there are various approaches to the treatment of this particular characteristic of COPD - some work for some folks, while others work for other patients. It is a very individual type of treatment that varies in its level of success.
Do you find that the menthol (Vicks) and Olbas oil helps you? Does it seem to be effective? Have you discussed this with your physician?
I am sorry to hear that you endured a cardiac arrest and a collapsed lung, too. I am very glad to know that you are here with us. If there is anything further you would like to share with us, we will be all ears. As well, if there is anything we can assist you with, please let me or any other moderator / team member know. 1. I also have this problem. I have to sometimes due to the phlegm getting stuck in my throat and mouth wipe my tongue with a paper towel and drag the mucus out. I sometimes also feel like I'm going to choke due to it getting stuck in my throat. Feels good to get it out only to have to go through the process again and again and again. Otherwise doing good. Hope you are too. I take Mucinex, Flonase spray twice a day along with allergy pills. All subscribed by my doctor.

Sharing information (as you did), can go a long way towards helping others know they are not alone in dealing with the peculiar symptoms of COPD.
We truly value your input here.
        Warm regards,
