Duct cleaning through out the house ?

Well we are taking a deep dive tomorrow and having our air ducts cleaned. Our house is 20 yrs old now, we bought it 7 yrs ago and figured the ducts have not been cleaned before. Our heat and cooling is on a HVAC unit.

Has any body done this and did it help you at all? Or at least keep the house from accumulating more dust?

  1. dltld,
I have never had this done to any house I owned or rented. I would think it has got to help. Ductwork is where a lot of dust accumulates and gets blown around the house via HVAC systems. Any action that gets rid of accumulated dust is good. Just remember that after it is done, to replace your air filter regularly, or you will defeat the purpose of the air duct cleaning. Let the forum know how it turns out and how much it helped the air quality in your house. Take care and God Bless.

    1. UPDATE it has been 6 full days, normally by this time we are seeing dust accumulating, if not already dusty. Well we are not seeing anything as of right now, "white glove" test, nothing showed. Can I tell with my breathing a difference? Not at this time, it is now high pollen season here and that is affecting me right now for sure. The process took near 4 hours to do both the intake and output ducts for our HVAC, no mold or mildew found, just a lot of dust and such. Thanks for the reminder on changing / cleaning the filters regularly, we do once a month usually on pay day, easier to remember LOL. I will continue this experiment of not dusting one small piece of furniture at least for another week, just to see what might or might not show. Very glad we did it at this time!

      1. we had ours done when we bought our home. Worked great! Very little dust & pretty easy breathing!! Highly recommend it.

        1. My HVAC guy told me not to bother. If the ducts are sealed properly and the Filter changed regularly there should be no accumulation of anything in the ducting. The problem is that in many homes the ducting is the aluminum foil kind, the duct tape disintegrates over time and needs to be redone. We had a duct inspection and found we had been cooling/heating the town for some time. After having the duct work resealed the dust accumulation lowered and the heating cooling worked so better. We were told that any dust etc in the ductwork would eventually be recycled through the filter.
