Do anyone feel they're not getting enough from their health provider?

I only see my copd nurse once a year and no follow ups. I've asked to be referred to the hospital to get more care but I was told they wouldn't do anything different to my gp practice. I get terrible breathing spasms, especially after eating, so I've put on weight because I'm snacking more, rather than having a proper meal as I know I'll suffer after it. I'm struggling to get housework done and my floors haven't been washed since I don't know when. I still think I'm lucky though, as I have a stair lift and a wet room where as others don't have this luxury. The last time I had a chest xray was 2.5yrs ago when I was blue lighted to hospital and this worries me as I'm now getting lots of pain in my upper back when I try to be active.

  1. Hi. Thank you for your post and for sharing your personal story. Based on what you describe here, I'm wondering if you might benefit by seeing a different nurse practitioner/doctor. You may benefit from seeing a COPD specialist -- such as a pulmonologist -- as they are the lung experts. Are either of these options available to you in your area? John. community moderator.

    1. Hi John. Yes they are available at the hospital but trying to get referred is a joke and without a referral the hospital won't see me. I'm going to book another appointment and ask again, if that fails I'll make a complaint to the practice manager and see if that helps.

      1. Good. Glad to hear that they are available. And that sounds like a good plan to give your doctor one more try to get a referral. And then to file a complaint if they do not. It may help to let your doctor know you plan to file a complaint. As doctors are rated based on responses they get from their patients. So, they may want to prevent this by giving you your way. Sad way to go about it. But if it works it works right? Please let us know how it goes. And good luck! John community moderator
