Compression Socks I am in Love !

Yes folks, after fighting with my thoughts for the last 6 months or so about trying compression socks, yet having a pair, I finally HAD to take the plunge. Wow, why did I fight this? Crazy woman, that's all I can say for myself.

As I sit here, I feel so lucky to actually feel the snugness on my legs. Soothing in a way.

What happen to "force me" to finally wear them was that I choose to crochet, sat for long periods of time (hour plus), concentrating on my work, without moving or even jiggling my feet like I normally would or just get up and move a little. I stood up one time and almost fell due to the fact that my left foot and ankle had fallen asleep and had no idea that had happened. Sitting straight back down, I took off my normal socks to find out that all was swollen, turning blue from the stretching of the skin and of course fell asleep. It scared my to death to see this.

Straight to feet up of course, once the swelling settled down, straight to the draw for those new 6 month old never used compression socks. Have not regretted using them since then at all. Yes, at first it was hard to get them on and pulled up, once on the relief that I felt was so nice. After a week of using them daily, I am so happy I am. Then there is another wonderful sensation when you take them off too. Can't win for losing on this added step to keep us healthy!

Currently I am using a couple pair that was purchased over the counter, but have an appointment with the nurse to get my legs measured and a prescription to order me those that are just right, no worries about sizing or wrinkles while wearing them. The chooses out there now for color and such are quite interesting, should be able to match my personality with no problems. Have little fun while accomplishing a healthy move for myself!

I did find out that many insurances do consider compression socks as "Durable Equipment", thus many insurances will help cover (portion or all) of them, just need that prescription from your doctor.

Please always check with your doctor(s) before changing you medical routine, there is certain conditions that using compression socks are not good for using no matter if you are having swelling issues from COPD or other comorbidities.

Well this is my two cents in the matter, anyone else use them? How to you feel about them?

  1. I am thrilled you finally used them and that they brought you relief, ! How awesome that you get to chose the colors of the prescription socks. You might as well have fun with it! Thanks for sharing this. Maybe it will insprire someone else to give them a try. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Good for you, Doris! They are good for all kinds of things, even if you have no major health problems. Some athletes wear them during workouts. My husband's cousin has a clotting disorder and requires compression socks every day -- he has a very quirky, fun personality and sports every kind of design you can imagine! I love that there are still ways to express yourself with them.

And just as a note to others, in addition to them being covered by insurance in some cases, you can also purchase them using your FSA (flex spending account) or HSA (health savings account) funds, if you have them. So handy!
