Can exacerbations caused by covid19 be corrected

Long story here but I'll attempt to cut it short. Last December I discovered that I had a-fib. I went to Emergency Room and was admitted. 2 days later I came down with Covid (at least that was what my home covid test said). A week or so later they shocked me and my heart rhythm was normal until the next morning. The Docs thought it must have been an aspiration during the cardioversion. Since beginning of year I my copd has remained in a exacerbated state. I am going to see a Physiologist next week and see about an ablation. (I'll consider myself lucky if I don't step on a rake on the way, just like the kings of comedy...the 3 stooges).
There is a lot of experience here, so I want to reach out to see if anything similar happened to someone here. Or do you think that if I can get my a-fib under control, what are the chances the copd will go back to the way it was before a-fib and covid.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated, so thanks in advance
Bruce G

  1. Hi . What a journey you've had these past few months. Please keep in mind that we are not medical experts. Any responses you receive here are based on opinions and experiences. No doubt there is a relationship between atrial fibrillation and COPD. Here is an article about COPD and its link to various cardiac conditions, including AF: https://copd.net/basics/conditions/cardiovascular-conditions/. Unfortunately, in doing some light research, I haven't found anything showing that treating AF will lead to improved COPD symptoms. What has your doctor said? However, we have heard from members whose COPD was made worse by COVID and whose symptoms improved bit by bit during the months after recovery. I hope that is the case for you and that the physiologist is able to help. Keep us posted if you don't mind. We will be thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Thanks Lori,
That's a kind of relief about Covid causing extended problems. And I certainly appreciate your efforts to research about AF and Copd. So, I'll just keep on keepin' on.
      Thanks again
