Camping with Oxygen

Does anyone go camping with oxygen? How do you do it?

  1. What a great question, , and how awesome are considering camping while dependent on oxygen. I hope you get lots of helpful responses. I do have a few questions that might help you get more targeted information: Will you be in a tent or an RV? Will there be electricity at the site? Any idea what the high and low temperatures might be? That could be important if you are tent camping because it might get too cold or too warm for your device.
I hope you are able to go and that you have a wonderful time!

    1. Well Hi Sheryl 😊...

I guess you can say that I live permanently camping. In a minivan on my property, very rural, no power. I went through the same question but for me it is permanent and solutions are difficult at best. I am not however on full time oxygen now.

If you don't have a way to generate any power at all. Then you need tanks, there is no other way.

Both of my portable oxygen concentrators will charge the batteries through the vehicle....I am on 5 solar panels otherwise.... So if you are driving you are charging. Either through the cigarette lighter plug or with an inverter. But with no way to recharge batteries, your time is limited.. Having enough batteries (6) for say a whole day off the power would be pretty expensive.

My Inogen 4 will do maybe 9 hours on 2 double size batteries I have at low setting. Recharging uses lots of DC auto amps and you would not be able to keep it going very long without draining the vehicle battery or needing to run the car......

      1. I to say this is a great question also! The responses you have gotten already are great ones too! The only other thing I can think of adding is, if you are going to a camp site/ cabin, you could contact your O2 supplier and see if they could / would do a tank exchange at the plce you will be, mine will as long as there is an office for safe placement until you are able to get it. They will not leave the tanks outside unattended. Or your O2 supplier might have a office close by for you to go to and trade up your empty tanks for full ones. If you have a portable concentrator then of course there is the need of electricity, thus the site or cabin would need to have it of course. Another option could be if there is that office, the office might be willing to let you recharge your batteries there? Hope you get the the answers you are seeking and have fun on your camping trip!!!!

        1. We camp in a pull behind and before that a small RV. We stayed only at sites with full hook ups, water, electric. I only use oxygen at night for now so I take my concentrator. I’m sure it will be a little more troublesome when I wear it 24/7. Right now we enjoy camping and have actually taken a couple of long road trips. I hope things work out for you to enjoy camping and take some fun trips.
