Being across the pond !

Good evening,

I am English and live in England. Having COPD, I came across your website etc and signed up.

Firstly I must say, well done to ALL involved in producing the articles etc.

Secondly, having just read one article concerning Insurance Companies that you have to contend with to acquire your medications, I am glad I do live in the UK and have the National Health system in place. No, it is not a free for all on being given anything we would like, but, in comparison to the system your people have to contend with it is favourable.

Hope nobody is offended by my comments, and good luck.
Always enjoy life.

  1. So glad you found us! There is many here from different Countries and share their stories and experiences too! As for being offended, no, you are only stating what you feel and that is okay! Yes some insurance companies can be very trying at times. Please keep in mind though there is people that get frustrated, instead of researching on how to handle their bumps in the road, they would rather vent their anger first. I am in the U.S., chatting up with a cousin in Ontario, Canada where they too have a National Health System, he was telling me it was great, until it came time to see a Specialist. He stated a few years back that many doctors leave Canada and come to the U.S. to make that extra money, thus causing huge wait times, long drives or even people having to come over the boarder to get the care they need. With that I would have to believe each system has its positives and negatives to them. I truly wish it would be easier and not so expensive, but this is what we have for now. Hoping for a BIG change one day!

Check out more of the site, there is a lot of information not only in the articles but even in this "forum" area.

    1. Welcome, Bob! Thanks for your kind words about the site. We work really hard to make this place great, and our members are truly a major part of that. I think the conversation around medical care can be complicated no matter where we are located ... some people do well with the NHS and others struggle; some here in the US have decent insurance care and others have to fight to get the coverage they need. I'm glad you feel like you have appropriate care in England!

Looking forward to getting to know you. Be well. 😀 -Melissa, copd.net team
