oxygen devices

Hi All,
I'm a university student and I'm doing a project on portable oxygen therapy devices. If you could choose one of the following, would you say you prefer a longer battery life or a lighter device?

  1. Hi jgrousop - while you may get more feedback from the community, I would aim to develop a unit that is both lightweight and has a long battery life. With today's technology, manufacturers should be striving to accomplish that!

    1. I agree I would want both.

  2. Hi I have only been on oxygen for 2 weeks. & I am tired of this 6 pound tank.

    1. We hear you, Angie. Others in our community have advised they are using different devices that are lighter and portable. There are also oxygen concentrators which use electricity to generate the oxygen you need. It's best to discuss these alternatives with the doctor who prescribed the oxygen for you. We have a great variety of published material that focus on the use of supplemental oxygen. You may want to look over this material here: https://copd.net/?s=oxygen+on+the+go&submit=Go
Please check back with us and let us know how you're doing.
      All the best,

      1. Hi CindyLooWho-

Thanks for your question! While you may get feedback from other members of the community, I wanted to respond as well. There are several possibilities for why a person could be out of breath despite being on oxygen. I thought this article which discusses it could be helpful: https://copd.net/answers/sob-and-supplemental-oxygen/. I hope this proves useful! We also encourage anyone experiencing this to check in with their doctor, if you haven't already, to be on the safe side.

        Best,
        Jenn (COPD.net Team)
