Which type of humidifier is best for COPD patients?

What type of humidifiers are people with COPD using, warm or cool air? Which do you like better and why? Just wanting some input before purchasing. The humidifier on my concentrator is still leaving me dry with frequent light nose bleeds and a sore throat in the morning.

  1. Hi kbair55, and thanks for your question. While we generally do not recommend specific brands or particular equipment types, I'm hopeful other community members will respond with their own anecdotal experiences using humidifiers.

I will tell you that in general, an indoor relative humidity level of between 30% -50%, is comfortable for most people. Any device that can accomplish this for your indoor environment, even if only for the room you are in, should be of value.

The humidifiers that are generally used inline with oxygen concentrators, are for what is referred to, as 'comfort humidity', and should help ameliorate the side effects you've described (light nose bleeds and a sore throat). Since you've shared you are exhibiting those symptoms, you may want to discuss this further with your physician. At the same time, you will probably want to inquire about humidifiers for the home.

I hope this brief reply provides you with useful and practical information.
    Wishing you well,
