Zephyr Valve Treatment

This is a new treatment for people with COPD that has brought amazing hope to an otherwise hopeless, suffocating end for it's sufferers. I am in the process of being referred for treatment, just wondering has this subject ever been discussed before.

  1. Hi CMc21797, and welcome! I see you are a new member here, having just joined yesterday! We are glad to see you are already engaging with the community by sharing your current situation with us here!
How exciting is this!? Being referred for evaluation for the endobronchial valve procedure is something to look forward to!
To answer your question - I can provide you with a resounding yes! Several of our community members have shared the fact they have undergone the procedure and have done well.
I thought you might gain some additional insight by reading any or all of the published material we have here on our site which addresses this procedure. I am sharing all with you here, not to overwhelm you but rather, so you have as much reference material as we can provide. Please, read as much (or as little), as you see fit and appropriate for yourself. Here is the link: https://copd.net/clinical/endobronchial-valve-system
Should you have any questions or, want to discuss this further, please let me or any other moderator / team member know. You are always welcome here!

    1. I have an allergy to nickel so does this mean I can’t have it?

    2. G'morning, , and welcome! I see you are a new member here, having joined today, much earlier this morning. We are glad to see you already engaging with the community through this, your first post.
To address your concern about the endobronchial valve procedure and a nickel allergy, this is a (valid) concern that is best addressed by your physician and/or the physician who is evaluating you for the procedure.
      What do you think?

  3. Hello and I am very interested in this as I was told I needed a lung transplant and would be more interested in this. Any suggestions on if this would help? Any help would be appreciated.

  4. I am looking into the Zephyr Valve now. I have COPD and have also seen others with it suffocate and it is an awful way to die. I have also found Mucinex timed released pill very helpful , taken once daily. I have seen a great improvement within a week of adding this to my COPD medications. Yes the Zephyr Valve seems to be a breakthrough for COPD patient's and I am living very close to Medical College of Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth University who specialize in the placement of the Zepher Valve.

    1. Hi , thank you for reaching out! The endobronchial valve procedure is definitely less invasive than a full single or double lung transplant! I can understand your hesitancy to consider lung transplant without a good support system. It is a major undertaking! We do have an article about the endobronchial valve procedure that you might find of interest: https://copd.net/clinical/endobronchial-valve-system

Additionally, a google search for "endobronchial valve" will return many good resources from various medical institutions and journals. There may be a few results that are not as reputable, so be sure to look at the source when reading information!

How are you feeling today? Please keep us posted on what you learn and about the conversation with your doctor after you have it. Know we are here to listen anytime you need support or have questions. Wishing you a gentle day. ~Allyson (team member)
