VPOD CapOx test

I’m on oxygen 24/7, my insurance company is wanting me to do this test without oxygen for 8 hours! I don’t think I should, am wanting some input on what I should do. It’s for an approval for a NIV but I think if I can go without oxygen for 8 hours whether I die or live. I won’t have a need for an NIV

  1. ,
Insurance companies don't care about you as a patient. All they care about is their bottom line, profit. I love my country, but health care here is appalling. I would contact my doctor and get his/her opinion about you going for 8 hours without oxygen. It seems to me that it would only cause a trip to the hospital resulting in a bigger expense than just approving the machine you need. Your doctor should get involved and let the insurance company know that you cannot do without oxygen for 8 hours and that he recommends the machine for your better health. Keep appealing until you get the necessary equipment to keep yourself alive. You can also file a complaint with your state insurance board. I threatened a dentist with a state insurance board complaint after he bait and switched me into much higher cost treatment that wasn't necessary and ended up not being covered by my insurance company, he ended up not billing me at all. It doesn't always work in your favor, but never hurts to try. If we as a society keep letting big companies get away with this kind of stuff, it will keep happening and never stop. Time to step up and fight it. That is all I got. Good luck and don't let them get away with it. Take care and God Bless.

    1. Hi Jessi, and thanks for your post. I see our valued community member, , has already provided a very real world, practical approach for your concern. I concur with his comment.
It is odd (or not so odd), an insurance company to make a suggestion that could compromise a patient's health. For someone (like you), to need supplemental oxygen therapy 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week, there is unconscionable. Like you, I am concerned for your health should the oxygen be stopped!
I would suggest the best approach for you would be to get your private medical doctor (PMD) involved. The doctor can establish a medical necessity for non-invasive ventilation (NIV) for your particular case.
      What do you think?
