Have any copders ever tried swimming without oxygen?

I'm very severe stage 4. I'm on 5 liters o2. There's a pool right across the street. I've always loved swimming but haven't even tried in the last 4 years. With a pool so close, I'm just wondering if it's doable. Thanks.

  1. Hi jcgivan and thanks for the great question. I'm hopeful others in the community will respond with their experiences for you. I can tell you that this is a very individual-specific decision. Your answer and decision will all depend on your ability to exert yourself with and without oxygen.
Please do check back and let us know how you're doing with this.

    1. Thanks Leon. I guess my hope is the weightlessness of water will help make the activity possible. As with all things, you never know unless you try, which I think I will this weekend! I'll keep y'all posted ☺

    2. Hi again, jcgivan. Did you ever make the decision to go swimming? How did it all go for you? We'd love to hear back! All the best, Leon (site moderator)

  2. It's my pleasure, jcgivan. You're right, once you try, you'll have a better idea. Even though you're buoyant, you are still going to exert yourself as you propel yourself through the water using your arms and legs. It is your body and lungs capability of handling the exertion. We'll look forward to hearing back from you. Good luck! Leon (site moderator)

    1. Hello jcgivan. I do not know about your specific situation but I am on 2 liters and can not walk far on land but once I get into the pool with my tank mounted to my Oxyfloat I can walk for about an hour. It gives me so much freedom walking in water.

      1. Water therapy is such great exercise, writtenone! Less impact on your muscles and yet a good work-out. I've heard other people mention how much they like their Oxyfloat. I've heard of people even securing their tanks to a small inner tube or another pool floatation device to keep it above water. Thanks for sharing that!

    2. I did indeed, no oxygen, had a blast with a boy my grandsons age. I was pretty out of breath by the time I got out, but it was worth every minute!

      1. Hi jcgivan - thanks for the update. I'm so glad to hear you were able to get out there, swim, and have a blast. Did you recover pretty quickly from being out of breath?
Now that you're gotten started, I'm hopeful you will continue doing what you enjoy so much.
        Warmly,
