Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Good afternoon all. I went to my evaluation for pulmonary rehab. The nurse was nice, but I was a little disappointed after her monitoring my blood oxygen after a 6 minute walk, and being on some of the machines when I asked her after my 12 weeks are up, do I get exercises to do at home. She replied they are working on that? Hmm, I live in Atlanta, you would think there are a little more cutting edge with patient advice. With that being said, I'll go twice a week. Hoping to meet others that can guide me. Hope everyone has a great day.

  1. SusanK,
Usually, a technician will not really know about any programs. All they do is work the equipment they were trained on and administer the tests necessary. My doctor asked me if I wanted to be in a Pulmonary Rehab Class, as the local hospital finally started one. I declined because I already do my own rehab at home. It is not like the exercises or a program to do at home are some kind of state secret. I just searched You Tube for Pulmonary Exercises and a bunch of videos came up. So don't wait on them, start learning about the necessary breathing exercises, and other exercises to do to improve your breathing. Then by the time the classes actually start, you will already be familiar with a lot of what you will be taught about the exercises to help. I would think once your 12 weeks are done, there will be some sort of guidance pamphlet or other material for at home. Most of the time, most people will do what they are comfortable with and what works for them. Not necessarily every exercise and order of exercises works for everyone. So, get familiar with the exercises, take the class, and make a routine for yourself that works for you. Take care and God Bless!

    1. yep he would b the one lol Army Brat in Texas grt8 guy judging from his post very point blank.

    2. ,
Thanks so much Ian for the encouraging response. I only write what I know works for me. I try to do my best to keep it simple and to the point. I will continue to respond when I can with only information that actually is tried and true for me. Take care and God Bless!

  2. thanks for the input. The woman who did my evaluation was a registered nurse and she was the one that told me they were working on it. I appreciate the suggestions for the exercises, I tell you, I have learned more on this site than anywhere else. Thankful for it. You take care as well and God Bless!

    1. I loved my rehab class and made good friend but it was stopped for Covid Do not get motivated at home cos I'm miserable!

      1. Covid is no longer at its highest ,,,so ask fora referral and get back to your course , ,,,,or look on line for exercises to do at home ,,,,or just go for a daily walk ,

    2. I'm so sorry to hear that. Have you reached out to your community perhaps? You may find something you might like. I feel moving is so important. You will be in my thoughts, blessings. Susan
