Prolia for osteoporosis

One of the side effects of taking COPD medications is osteoporosis. I’m looking for some feedback from anyone who’s taking Prolia. I tried Boniva, Fosamax and Actonel and couldn’t tolerate them due to the side effects. My doctor is now recommending I use Prolia but before I agree to it, I was hoping I could get some feedback from anyone who has used or is taking this medication and if you’ve suffered any side effects. If so what were they?

  1. Hi Jrtmom, and thanks for your post - it's a good one with a good question! I am hopeful others in the community will see your inquiry and respond by sharing their own personal anecdotal experiences here with you.
As it turns out, I will be taking my 4th Prolia injection this coming Friday. Having been on it for two years, it has all worked out for me.
I would ask you to keep in mind that medications work differently for everyone. Once you have heard from others here, you will probably want to discuss this further with your prescribing and administering physician.
    What do you think?

    1. Thank you for your response. I have a couple of months before I receive my first shot so that will give me some time to hopefully hear from other people. I have discussed it with my doctor and she says most people that she’s dealt with have tolerated it well. I just had such a bad reaction to the Boniva etc. that I am leary of these medications.

      1. Hi again, Jrtmom, and thanks for your reply and further explanation. I have heard the same from the folks I interact with at the doctor's office who both ordered and administers the medication.
I think, as you said, that this 3-month period of time will be good for amassing more experience by speaking with others. If you trust your physician (as I do), then perhaps you will also be able to rely on her recommendation and experience with all of her patients.
Please do check back and keep us apprised of your progress.
        Wishing you well,
