Has anyone here had a baby with COPD?

Has anyone had a baby with severe COPD and how was it? I have COPD from scarring from TB and pneumonia. My lung function has increased from 21 to 45%. I don't rely on oxygen. I am 34 and I really want a baby.

  1. Hi ! I see you've asked this question both on our Facebook page and here on our website. I'm really hoping there's at least one member here who has experienced pregnancy with COPD and can share with you. I know you'd really like to hear from folks - so anyone reading this with some insight, please do chime in! In the meantime, have you spoken with your healthcare team about this yet? I'm wondering if they have some helpful insight to share with you. Know we are all thinking of you here at COPD.net <3 Wishing you a gentle day today, Alesandra (COPD.net Team)

    1. Hi Alesandra,
I have discussed with my pulmanonogist however I do feel that she isn't child supportive. That's why I would love to hear from other people. I'm not dependent on o2 I take a preventer and antibiotics but that's it. As mentioned I had phumonia and turbucolisis with collapsed lungs at once. I do feel 100 times better than I was.

      1. Hi , and thanks for your post. Like my colleague, Alesandra, I also saw your posts both on our COPD Facebook platform and here on COPD.net. I was also hoping someone would be able to respond to you with their own personal experience - we'll wait and see.

I had a thought as well. Since your pulmonologist does not seem to be receptive to the idea of child bearing for you - perhaps you'd want to seek the opinion of a good obstetrician/gynecologist. You may want to find one (and there are many around), who specializes in 'high risk' pregnancies, based on your pulmonary history. A doctor such as this probably has (pulmonary) colleagues to whom you can be referred based on your history of COPD, Tuberculosis, pneumonia and a collapsed lung.

        What do you think?
        Wishing you well,
        Leon (site moderator COPD.net)
