Moving Day Update

Just a quick update on the move. I am currently taking a break to recharge for cleaning. The movers showed up at 8:45 AM and are now on their way to our new place of residence. A little over 2 hours to load everything and they said it would be less time to unload. So, all in all about 4- 4 1/2 hours total for the movers. They were awesome. We used a moving business called "College Hunks". Polite, strong young men. It was raining when they got here but didn't stop them. All furniture was shrink wrapped, so no delay for weather. Still lots to do. Clean this old place before we are done here and then on to better things. Going to be a long weekend. But I will take it slow and not overdo it. Update you all later. Time to go start cleaning.

  1. Hi Dminor, and thanks for the update. Moving day is finally here and I just know that you will be better off once this day is behind you.
Thankfully, you have a good moving team (College Hunks, eh? What a novel idea!). Glad to hear they are so good. Your job, is (as you said and know), to take it easy and let the others do the 'heavy lifting' - you did that all your life. It's time to accept all the others' help.
I am pulling for you and know you will do just fine.
In the end, you will be in your new place and enjoying all it has to offers for you and your family.
    Good luck!

    1. Thank you, Leon, and Copdgirl for your responses and encouragement. It means a lot and helps more than you can know. Yesterday was a long, semi-chaotic day. After the movers left the house we were moving out of, I stayed behind to clean while my wife went to the new place to be with the movers. I spent the next 4 hours cleaning 1350 sq. ft. of wood flooring. Since it had rained while the move was happening, mud tracks were all throughout the house. Then waited on my wife to get back. My wife, myself, and my daughter loaded up all the final last-minute stuff. I thought it would never end.
It is truly amazing how much stuff one accumulates in such a short span of time. On to the new place. Since we downsized to about 1000 sq. ft., there is a mountain of boxes to go through. The place is a disaster at this moment. I imagine there is some downsizing yet to go. It is hard to gauge how much room everything takes up. I was completely exhausted by 10 PM last night. After a shower, bedtime. As tired as I was, I didn't sleep all that well. Got up at 5 AM this morning. I actually got some stuff accomplished this morning. Unpacked a few small boxes, helped get the trash out, and got the kitchen table put back together. On orders from my wife, not going to tackle too much else today. She says I need a complete day of rest and yells at me to sit down when I try to do too much. God Bless her heart! The only other thing I really need to accomplish today is getting the washer and dryer hooked back up, and a long afternoon nap! Slowly but surely, things will get done. Neither my wife nor I are worried about getting everything done pronto. It will get done when it gets done. That is all I got for now. I will post more in a day or two. Take care everyone and stay safe.

      1. ,
We have been busy bees the past few days. Monday, I spent most of the day taking it easy. I did a few things, though. Got my laundry done, argued with my wife about how to re-arrange the living room (we never agree on those types of things, lol), and made dinner. That is pretty much all I did yesterday. I did watch a movie last evening. I have slept much better the last 3 nights, so I am not feeling as tired. Got a few small things planned today, setting up my Nintendo Wii for my grandson, and setting up my Xbox One S for me. I still have to unpack my rock, crystal, and fossil collection and re-display them. I have to wait for my grandson for that, he loves getting to handle my rock collection. Other than that, it is just finding the nook and crannies for the little stuff to be put away. We will probably still have to downsize our stuff just a little more. But that is ok. All in all, it went fairly well and all the help from my daughter, her husband, and my 5 yr. old grandson really was the difference for us. This will probably be the last moving update I post. There basically in nothing else to tell. Thanks all and take care.

      2. Hi again, Dminor - that is quite the recap for quite the successful and well-handled move. I liked when you said "That is pretty much all I did yesterday." That is quite the productive day given the weekend move activities.
Keep doing what you're doing - it's all working for you!
        Warmly,

    2. Hi , congrats on the move! It is so overwhelming for anyone to pack up an entire place and unpack it again. You all seem super efficient. 😀 I moved into my first home last Labor Day and am still frustrated over the boxes that sit in my spare bedroom. "They" (the nameless experts) say that whatever doesn't get unpacked in the first two weeks will usually end up sitting wherever you leave it. Too true for me. Good job pacing yourself and focusing on one thing at a time. I'm sure your lungs are grateful. Enjoy your new home in good health!

I just want to add congratulations on your lengthy marriage. It's not always easy, and I have great respect for all married couples putting in the effort each day. Many more happy years! -Melissa, copd.net team
