Medicare part D

I just started my Medicare Part A and B-pay for a secondary ins and also a part D plan. For the last few years I have had BCN and I paid 0.00 for my Spiriva Respimat. I have tried Breztri and it doesn't work for my. Now they are wanting be me to pay $700.00 for my Spriva !!! Has anyone else had this issue? I have tried to few things but they usually say I don't qualify because I work full time. I can't afford this with all the other meds I take. Kinda freaking me out. I am calling the makers of Spiriva tomorrow to see if they can help. I don't understand how they can give me the choice of giving up anything extra or breathing. Even giving up of lot of things-I still don't think I can afford this. The $700 would be every 3 months but I still can't do this. Praying for something to come up. Thanks for letting me rant. Just a bit scared

  1. Hi again, Linbuz, and thanks for your post. Please know your 'rant' is always welcome here, you do not have to be concerned about that.. I hear you!
The complexities of Medicare (especially as a secondary insurance), as well as the relationship between your primary insurance and Medicare can be a confounding experience. So much of what Medicare will and will not cover, is dependent on what your primary insurance covers, since you are still working. And, the primary coverage is dependent on the existing contract with your employer!

I understand and know what you are going through.
I think your idea to reach out to the folks at Boehringer Ingelheim (the makers of Spiriva), is a good one. Sometimes, the manufacturers can be of assistance to patients/clients when they become familiar with the financial burden that exists.
Please do check back and let us know how this all turns out for you.
    Happy holiday!

    1. Thank you for your reply. I didn't state my insurance very clearly. I am working full time but My Medicare is my primary ins. I pay for my part B and I also pay for a secondary ins. I am just so shocked at the prices they are allowed to charge. I am praying the manufactures can help me because the option is not have the medication I need so a little scared for the future. I will post what happens tomorrow after my phone call.

      Thanks again

      1. Thank you Leon. I'm on SSI and social security. I have great insurance right now. I hope it stays the same. I going to call and see if I get to keep what I have after I turn 65. I don't know if it's different state to state. I guess it Federal and Depends on the amount of money you draw I'm not really sure. Lost and confused. I will be finding out soon. Rosemary strong

      2. Hi again, Rosemary - sounds like a good place to start. I found (also) that being aware of what was coming down the 'pike in terms of health benefits with Medicare was a worthwhile move to make.
Good luck and please, do keep us apprised of your progress!
