COPD

I want to know if others have problems with their finger oxygen number dropping out on them for seemingly no reason? I have not seen any talk about this on this site or any where else.

  1. Hi. Thank you for posting. Are you referring to your oxygen saturation, which is obtained by a pulse oximeter -- such as is described in this post (https://copd.net/clinical/home-pulse-oximeter-monitoring)? If so, normal oxygen saturation is 98%, although acceptable for you goes all the way down to 90%. And, for some people with COPD, 88% is acceptable -- and learning what is acceptable for you can be determined by talking with your COPD doctor. We have an article on this that I will post here if you are interested (https://copd.net/clinical/interpreting-oxygen-levels). There are also various things that may cause this "oxygen saturatoin" to get lower than 88%. Probably the most common is an inaccurate reading, which may happen in such situations as your fingertips being cold. Before I continue here, is this what you are referring to? John. copd.net community moderator.

    1. I'm one of those people that John Bottrell spoke of my O2 level is 88%. I have noticed that my O2 levels drop out when I'm active. I find myself having to stop and take a break, when I do my levels come back up to my acceptable level. I also agree with John to read the articles that he suggested, I think they may help.

      1. Hi Jbyrd, and thanks for lending your own support and encouragement here. We also very much appreciate you sharing your own personal experience managing this condition with the community. Your candor is refreshing!!
        Warm regards,
