Life Expectancy

Those who've recently received a COPD diagnosis and are despondent and experiencing anxiety about their future should be aware that I was diagnosed in 1977.

  1. Hi , and thanks for lending your own support and encouragement here with the community. It is important for all of us to hear from folks (like you!), who have been living successful, productive lives following a COPD diagnosis.
If there is anything further you would like to share here, we would welcome your input.
    Wishing you well,
    Leon L. (author / moderator)

    1. Thankyou so much for sharing this with us, you will have put a lot of people at ease, including me.X

      1. So good of you to share this with us! We staff members often say that no one can tell a person how long they have to live, COPD or no COPD. But it is another thing entirely to hear it from someone who is living with COPD themselves. You are an asset here and we wish you many more good days ahead. -Melissa, copd team

        1. Hi B38eb5
Like you I was diagnosed a long time ago. 1996, at 53. I continued to work till I was 66. When I retired we still went on holiday, at home and abroad. In 2015 I had a spell in hospital, and had to start using oxygen. I'm gradually getting worse, but that's life, and I have great nurses in the community. To anyone recently diagnosed, I say attend every rehabilitation course you're offered. They are great. Talk to your medics and pespiratory nurses about how you can help yourself! And exercise, as much as you can within your abilities. There is still a great world out there!
