Has anyone else got laryngitis from COPD treatment or meds?

In hospital for flare up 2months ago. Back on usual meds now - Advair, Spiriva and Levalbuterol. This was my 3rd flare up, 1st time on steroids by IV and in treatments. Feel better than I have in years, really. Still on O2, want to talk (couldn’t complete a sentence before) but not I have no voice. Thus my new name. Anyone else?

  1. Hi Frogger, and thanks for your post.

Do you think your hoarse voice might be related to a side effect of the metered dose inhalers (MDI's) you're using? Or, is it possible you picked something up (infection-wise), while you were hospitalized? It is also entirely possible that this is just plain laryngitis - have you had an opportunity to discuss this with your doctor(s)?

I'm hopeful others in the community will respond to your inquiry. As you may be aware, we cannot provide medical advice or diagnostics over the internet (for your own safety). I did want to give you some ideas to think about and explore with your physician as you look to evaluate these current symptoms.

    Wishing you well,

    1. Hi Leon. Thanks for your quick response. I was heavy intravenous steroids, never had that before. My legs blew up like pontoons and my voice was like I had a frog in my throat. My Pulmonologist,at my follow up appt, said the swelling would go down in two weeks and it did and the voice should be better in 2 months and if not “we will see what we need to do”. It has been over 2 months, my next appt is another 2months out. Hoping someone else might have experienced this.

      1. Hi again, Frogger, and thanks for your reply and explanation, (above). You may want to give some thought to reaching out to your pulmonologist sooner than the next 2 months, which is when your next appointment is scheduled.

I say this because the doctor advised he thought the swelling would resolve in 2 weeks, and the hoarseness would resolve within a 2-month time period. Since the swelling diminished but the hoarse voice did not - you may not want to wait an additional 2 months to see the physician. What do you think?
