Update on Dan

Hi all,
I have gotten so many replies to my last post I want to let you know we saw Dans' Pulmonary Dr today. His lungs have stayed the same as far as the tests they do go. He is at 27% for his lungs. She had a long talk with him and told him he is depressed and he needs to push hisself and to quit worring about his levels so much. His oxy range she said should be 83 to 95. And if it dips into low 80's do not be alarmed UNLESS it will not go back after 5 minutes.
So I kinda think that alone will help him. Guess he thought it should stay in high 80's and 90 's even when he gets up and moves.
Also starting him in pulmonary rehab again to get him out of the house and relearn some things in class.
So hopefully things are going to get better!
Will also get referal from primary Dr for physical therapy in Nov.

Thank you all for your sincere thoughts and words. It means alot to me.
Hope everyone is doing good, or better.
Thanks gain,
Vicki and Dan

  1. That's good - glad to hear it! Hmmm. These stats are nothing like mine. My breathing gets very difficult below 94 and at 88 to 85 I am no longer able to breathe, and that's while wearing O2 at 3 liters pressure 24/7. On a really good day I can take my O2 off and go to the far end of the house for a few minutes and back. On a bad day when I get up from my desk in my room to go to the kitchen, ten feet away, with the O2 on, I am breathing hard with my oximeter down to 85 or lower and my pulse at 120 by the time I get back with a cold drink or food. So kind of limiting at times. My lungs are at about 20% or just below. But it will improve as I fix my diet and get around more. Sounds like you are moving in the right direction. Glad to hear it!

    1. Hi kloker, and thanks so much for lending your own support and encouragement here. As I've said frequently, this is exactly what our online community is all about.
We also appreciate you sharing your own personal experience(s) managing this condition with the community as well. It sounds like you, too, are on track to realizing an improvement as you work on your diet plus 'more' as you said.
Please know, you are always welcome here!
      Warmly,

  2. Hi (and Dan!) I'm glad you had a good appointment with the doctor and that they were able to help alleviate some of the concerns Dan was having. I think pulmonary rehab is a great idea, hopefully even just getting out of the house will be helpful! We are so glad both you and Dan are part of our community and we are all here to offer support whenever you need it. Please keep us updated on how you both are doing! All the best, Sam S. (COPD.Net, Team Member).

    1. Hi Vicki and, your husband, Dan, too!
Thanks so much for bringing us up-to-date following Dan's visit with the pulmonologist. Based on what you've shared here with the community, it sounds like the visit went quite well.
Sometimes, folks often times get caught up with the clinical numbers rather than how they are feeling. How one is feeling is important too! The doctors advice seemed to be very practical for both you and Dan. It can help guide you as you move forward to manage this condition together.
I will wish you both 'good luck!' as he starts to move through pulmonary rehabilitation presently, and look forward to the visit with his primary physician in November.
I see my colleague, , has already chimed in and lent her support as well. We are all here in your corner!
We are all so pleased for this optimistic sounding update, Vicki - please do continue to keep us apprised of how each of you and, the two of you, are doing. You've expressed some pretty candid emotions here with the community in several of your recent conversations and we value the trust you have shown in us.
Please know we are here to help your family in any way that we can.
      Warmest regards,
      Leon (site moderator COPD.net)
