Hi, this is bogangles

I hope someone can answer a few questions for me.
1. Is exercise really important. Is riding a stationary bike for 30 minutes a day good? Can you tell me how important exercising is. Also how do you not get depressed with your life doing this. My husband is 77 and trying to take care of me and the house. I am 73 and it kills me to see him do everything. Our lives have changed so much, not just me but him as well.

  1. Hi bogangles (cory), and thanks for this post. I am sorry, it took me this long to be able to access this
post and respond - that is not the usual for us here at COPD.net. There is something that happened with the spacing
in this which made it difficult to visualize. But now, that I have been able to get through the odd spacing, I will try to address your concerns.
As it turns out, exercising and staying active, is a very important part of managing this disease successfully. Of course,
every patient is different and so, the the type of exercis, as well as the length of time spent exercising, can vary considerably
from patient to patient. You may want to discuss this aspect of managing COPD with your physician.
I see you also asked about spending 30 minutes on an exercise bicycle. Generally speaking, that is considered to be good. However, once
again, if you are the one doing the exercise, I think the doctor will be the best medical professional to be able to guide you accordingly. The doctor knows you (and your disease)
best. Together you both will be able to determine what is best for you and your particular level of disease.
    What do you think?

    1. Thank you so much for answering. I will ask the doctor. I am doing this and even though I hate it, I'll see what he says.

      1. Hi again, bogangles (cory) - I hear you! Exercising is one of those necessary evils. I hate it too but, once I get out there and start walking (on the glorious boardwalk), it has become a part of my daily routine - all through the winter. I am sure I am feeling better because of the activity. And, although I am not totally flexible, I do move better than if I didn't walk and exercise!
I think that is a great idea that you plan to take this to your doctor. Please do check back and let us know how it all turns out for you.
        Warm regards,
