Why do I keep getting sick?

I have Stage 2 COPD. Why do I keep getting sick? Every month I’m in the hospital for a week. I do what the doctor said. I take all my medication. I use oxygen at home too. But why?

  1. Jmora271 - I'm so sorry you keep getting sick! I can hear the frustration that's coming through. It sounds like you're doing all the right things - which is great! Sadly, at times our immune system is weakened to the point that we just can't seem to "catch up". There isn't a magic pill, but you can continue to do some practical things that may help.
    1. Stay away from sick people. I know that's harder than sounds to do. But, when you go out, make sure you carry hand sanitizer and use it often. Wipe the handles down on the cart you use in the market and use a paper on doorknobs. You get the picture...
    2. Stay hydrated. It's so important to drink plenty of fluids. It helps our bodies in so many ways.
    3. Get enough rest.
    4. Vaccinate if you can.
Here's an article that I think you'll really appreciate. https://copd.net/living/infections-exacerbations-and-stress/

    Take care and stay healthy.

    1. Hi Jmora271,
Nobody knows why this keeps happening to some people and not to others.
I too have had frequent hospital stays and I have no idea why some people are so stable and I am not.
We have some great information on this site that should help you get a grip on your conditions. Also, Lyn has given you some great information.
