Dental appointments

Hi all,

Like most here, living with Covid during the last few years has been scary and challenging. Now that things are calming down a bit - though we’re not out of the woods yet - I have been long overdue for a visit to my dentist. It’s been about three years and I’ve recently experienced a dental episode which requires a visit. I have advanced COPD, very short of breath with the slightest exertion and comprised mobility, although my o2 saturation levels are good and I’m not on oxygen, the idea of sitting in a dentists chair with my mouth open for an extended period of time is terrifying. I’m not sure how I could breath during the procedure and how long I could last. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has faced this dilemma and what techniques - breathing or otherwise - they might have employed to get through a visit to the dentist.

Thanks so much,
Bruce

  1. I can totally relate and looking forward to advice on this as well

    1. I hear how the idea of going to the dentist can be really overwhelming and i'm confident others will chime in if they have an experience or some advice to share. I would say that it is definitely important to go over any concerns you have with your dentist so they can work with you to make you as comfortable as possible. Here is an article we have where one of our advocates talks about how they prep for their appointments at the dentist: https://copd.net/living/dentist-appointments. All the best, Sam S.
