Are my concerns around COVID and COPD valid?

What is going on with me? I have just discovered this website tonight so please excuse me if my question is a bit vague.

I was diagnosed about 2.5 years ago with mild COPD. I started on the blue inhaler (sorry to be so vague but I cant remember what it is called.) Then maybe about a year ago my doctor moved me on to Eklira Genuair which I take twice a day. I have almost no symptoms but had my last check up in March cancelled due to start of Covid restrictions. The only change in the past year is very very occasional tightness/pain in my chest which is relieved by 2 paracetamol.

I still work full time as a hands-on hotel manager and am 63. Obviously I have become a lot more worried since the onset of the Pandemic. So whats my question? To tell you the truth I'm not sure. I suppose whats bothering me is if I get Covid is it automatically a death sentence? I hope thats not too blunt?

  1. Hi HarryMc, and welcome. We're so glad you found our COPD.net community - you've certainly come to the right place! Our entire community understands how you feel and knows what you're going through.

You may be aware that COPD affects all patients differently. As well, treatment of COPD can vary widely from patient to patient. Having said that, the COVID-19 virus also affects everyone differently.

You may want to familiarize yourself with more about COVID-19 and COPD. We actually have several articles published, right here on COPD.net which focuses on this very topic. For your convenience, here is a link to several of the articles for you to review: https://copd.net/?s=COVID-19.

Of course, I would suggest you follow the recommendations of your own physician as well as the local governmental leadership in your community.

If we can assist you with anything moving forward, please let me or any other moderator / team member know.

    Wishing you well,
    Leon (site moderator COPD.net)
