Just curious

I also take Breo for my emphysema. I'm just curious as to how much of the powder actually reaches the lungs. There is such a small amount of the powder to begin with, I think most of it gets trapped in the moisture in the mouth and throat. Am I right? Is their a better delivery system? Also it would help if people tell us just what kind of COPD their dealing with so we could better relate our situations to others.

  1. Hi , I hear your concern! If you think you aren't getting enough of the medication, I would definitely speak to your doctor! In the meantime here is an article on the proper use of inhalers: https://copd.net/living/inhalers-proper-use. All the best, Sam S. (COPD.net, Team Member).

    1. Hi Jim, and thanks for your post and question. It's a good one. I see my colleague, , has already provided a response. I do hope you have an opportunity to look over her remarks.
I also wanted to add something. It is generally accepted that dry powder inhalers (DPI's), are effective at delivering the expected dosage of prescribed medication.
I thought this article's abstract, might provide you with additional insight for your concern: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16185366/#:~:text=Dry%20powder%20inhalers%20%28DPIs%29%20are%20a%20widely%20accepted,to%20treat%20asthma%20and%20chronic%20obstructive%20pulmonary%20disease. I do hope you find the brief abstract to be helpful in a practical way.
      Wishing you well,

      1. Thanks Sam
