COPD diagnosed but no wheezing or congestion

I have been diagnosed with COPD. Had a PFT and have been given albuteral and fluctisone inhalers.
What I am curious about is; I don't seem to have lung issues. When I am feeling really bad it seems to all be clogged up in my head.
I do have a chronic cough but no phlegm.
I am always short of breath and am exhausted after a short amount of activity and can end up in bed for two or three days
I do get dizzy often.
Does anyone else suffer from COPD without the lung issues.
I hope I have explained this correctly and thank you for your time.

  1. Hi - and thanks for your post. You may be aware, COPD affects every patient differently. Some typical characteristics of COPD can include a chronic cough. This cough may be accompanied by mucus production and yet, for some patients, little to no mucus can be the symptom too. Other classic symptoms may also include shortness of breath (SOB), and feeling tired throughout the day. You've shared about your head being 'clogged' - sometimes this can be a symptom of sinus issues. Sinus issues may be associated with COPD, as well.
There are any number of medical diagnoses that can result in a patient feeling dizzy.
I think you have made your particular situation quite clear - no worries there!
I would suggest that you take this narrative and discuss it at length with your physician(s). The doctor knows you (and your medical history) best. He/she should be able to advise you accordingly moving forward.
    What do you think?

    1. Thank you for your quick reply. I do plan on discussing this with my doctor but my pulmonologist retired the day before my last appt. I was not able to get an appt with a new one until August 30th. The people I know with COPD all have lung and allergy issues so I was just wondering if others out there had head issues instead. It does seem like sinus problems, we shall see. I live in a rural area and our doctors here are overwhelmed. They don't spend much time with their patients so sometimes it's hard to get the message across, let's hope this doc hears what I say.
      Again thank you for replying.

      1. Hi again, Susan, and thanks for lending your own special brand of encouragement and support. Thank you as well, for your kind words.
        Enjoy the weekend!

      2. Hi again, catrob - you are most welcome! Responding to our community members and lending support is a large part of what our community is all about. Sometimes, the timing of our doctors (retirement), is something we don't expect nor are we prepared for. Seemingly, they may not be either since you now have to wait until August 30 for your next appointment. Do you think a visit to your local urgicare might help to fill the void until your appointment the end of next month? They may be able to guide you with your present concerns (sinus and dizziness).
I am hopeful others in the community will see your concerns, and respond by sharing their experiences if they are similar.
        Enjoy the weekend!
