Can't sleep

I don't have a problem getting to sleep-I just don't sleep very long. 4-5 hours if I am lucky. Does anyone else have this problem and what do you do for it?

  1. Hi @Linbuz, I can hear your frustration. Unfortunately, many of our community members have the same issue with staying asleep. I am sending over two articles with tips, I really hope this can help you. Jill, COPD.net, team member https://copd.net/basics/sleeping-problems, https://copd.net/living/trouble-sleeping

    1. I don't have a problem falling to sleep either, but I can only sleep 2-3 hours, and in the morning I am exhausted!

      1. Hi nanadee, and thanks for joining in the conversation here. Wow - sleep time on the overnight of only 2-3 hours is not much sleep at all! I would expect, as you've shared, that you would be exhausted in the morning.
How do you manage your days like this? Is there anything further you are able to share with the community at this time?
        Wishing you well,
        Leon (site moderator COPD.net)

    2. Thank you for the articles. I have already tried these tips. It doesn't seem like there is much that can be done. At least every 4-5 days-I am so tired I will sleep for about 6 hours. Just happy to keep going !!

Happy 4th of July all !!!

      1. Hi Linbuz - glad that you were able to read the articles - they are good for reference. It can be challenging when one is living with such little sleep - rest is a big part of managing this condition. What works for many patients I have worked with is - they have adjusted to and accepted the short sleeping patterns on the overnight. What they then try to do, is stay busy in the morning (for some, their energy levels seem better in the morning), and then stay low key in the afternoon. They often times take brief naps in the afternoon and that seems to help as well. That turns out to be a pattern that helps them.
Do you think this might work for you?

      2. Hi Leon,
I have a full time job so not always easy to rest-lol. When I am off-I have found if I nap-it makes my night time sleep even shorter. Am learning how to cope with this. Going to try to elevate some at night to see if that helps. It's like a circle-I get so tired I go to sleep to early. I have been trying to do what exercise I can in the evening to get a little more energy to stay up later. Thank you for responding

    3. You are definitely not alone! You've probably tried most of the suggestions you read about; limit caffeine before bedtime, limit alcohol, try winding down a little before bedtime, etc. Have you spoken to your doctor about it? They might have a suggestion and if you want to go that route, even prescribe a sleep aid. I've some people tell me they thought CBD oil helped them fall asleep and stay sleeping longer. You might want to speak to your doctor about that.
I hope you find some relief. It's difficult to get through the day when you haven't had a good night's sleep.
      Best,

      1. Hi Lynn,
I did talk to my Dr and I did a sleep aid for a bit. Unfortunately it doesn't keep me asleep any longer. I tried to take it at the time I woke up at 3 or 4 am and that did help but left me groggy throughout the day so I thing just getting adjusted to the sleep pattern will have to do for now.
