Has anyone had experience with AlphaID?

I found a web page for AlphaID that advertises a free test to determine if a person with COPD has alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency. I'm naturally skeptical of anyone offering anything for "free" and wondering if anyone in the community has taken this test.

  1. Hi ! Thanks for your question. For transparency, I did want to let you know that the company behind this test is one of our sponsors here. It is indeed a legitimate test. That being said, we do have some Facebook threads where you can see what other community members who have taken the test are talking about, and get more information there. I'm going to include one here for you so that you can browse member responses and check them out! https://www.facebook.com/COPDDotNet/posts/2566030323654977 I hope this helps! -Alesandra (COPD.net Team)

    1. Thank you Alesandra, this is very interesting information.

  2. After bouts with pneumonia & bronchitis for years I got a new Dr. @ the Springfield Il. V.A, her first question was why can't you breath ? From there she sent me to Danville Il. to a new Pulmonologist. At the time I had just turned 74,I had hunted high country in my 50's & been Special Forces in Vietnam, played H.S. sports. Background My mother died of a asthma attack @ 58 her dad did the same @ 48. Now I know these were not asthma, but ALPHA-1. Getting back to me and the Dr. in Danville ran me through all kind of test. Sent a blood test to Az. She called me 2 days later and said I was ALPHA-1 set me up with a local Pulmonologist and infusion unit for prolastin every week for over 3 years now. My local V A and pulmonologist work together for my best health

    1. Hi team1, and thanks for joining in the conversation here as it relates to COPD and alpha-1 disease. We also appreciate you sharing your and part of your family's medical history with the community as well.

After all this time, to finally have doctors that are now able to provide you with a definitive diagnosis and treatment is good to hear. You must be gratified too, since you've been successfully treated for this for the past 3 years.

I am so pleased to learn that, in your case, the VA Health Care System is able to work collaboratively with your own pulmonologist to your benefit.

I also wanted to thank you for your service to this country - I have several very close friends who served, like you, during the Vietnam era.

Again, we value you being so candid with the community as regards your present medical condition and treatment.

      Warm regards,
      Leon (site moderator COPD.net)
