Is it dangerous to move without supplemental oxygen for a few minutes?

My daddy has COPD using O2 4L all the day

If he walk 5steps his o2 level 74% without O2, so I am asking if this is bad or should I forced him to walk with O2?

I thank you for the speed of your response. My 65yr old father suffers from copd disease. My father suffered infections from a month and entered the hospital for several days. After that, the doctor asked to use oxygen and changed his life and felt that he would die. How long can a chronic pulmonary embolism patient live in the fourth stage? Oxygen 5 liters throughout the day. If my father moves several steps without oxygen, oxygen reaches 74%, and once he sits back to the 89% level of non-oxygen use.

Is it dangerous to move without oxygen for a few minutes to use the bathroom?

  1. Hi Maiesa91 and thanks for your post. I believe you posted this elsewhere, either here on COPD.net or possibly on our COPD Facebook page. I cannot locate it now so I will answer you again here. Please keep in mind that we are a site that deals primarily with COPD, and not pulmonary embolism(s). Having said that, if the physician has prescribed continuous oxygen for your Dad, he should use it as prescribed. There really is no reason for Dad to take off his oxygen when he needs to use the bathroom, especially since you indicated his oxygen level drops when he doesn't use it. For more detailed information about oxygen use and how it relates to your father, you may want to consult with Dad's prescribing physician.
Please do check back and let us know how you (and he) are doing. All the best, Leon (site moderator)
