surgery

has anyone had any surgery due to copd

  1. Hi there! Interesting question. I guess it depends on what you mean by "surgery due to COPD." Some people do have procedures to increase air capacity in the lungs ... others have had artifical valves put in and in some cases, even lung transplants. Do you have any specific information that can help us answer you better? Like, are you having a surgery soon, or are you looking for surgical treatment options? Let us know. Take care. -Melissa, copd.net team

    1. Hi again, bogangles and thanks for your question - it's a good one! I see my colleague, ,
has already responded to your concern. In fact, she's asked several questions in order to clarify what exactly you are asking
when it comes to surgery and COPD. I also would like to hear more from you.
However, in the meantime, I thought you might be interested in reading some of the posts/material we have published, right here
on COPD.net, which centers around this very topic - COPD and surgery. For your convenience, here is a link to some of that material:

Does this information address any of your concerns?

      1. to Melissa and Leon Thank you so much for your replies. I think I was just hoping some kind of surgery to take this horrible disease away. I hate it so much. What you sent me Melissa helped to a point. Sometimes I go to bed to try and sleep so I don't have to think about this anymore. I had no idea copd could totally destroy my life. I was always on the go and now I think I am even afraid to fly. I feel so bad for my husband having to do everything, he's getting old too. If I find out anymore I will let you know Thank you

        1. Hi again, bogangles - it's our pleasure! Now that you have clarified your concern, I think I can provide you with some additional material. There are various procedures that, for patients who are suitable candidates, may help to ease some of the symptoms in some cases.
There is a procedure known as 'the endobronchial valve procedure' which, can ease one's work of breathing for certain patients. We have some material, published here on COPD.net, which explains this procedure. Some of our community members have shared the success they have had using these valves. For your convenience, here is a link to articles that speak to this treatment: https://copd.net/search?s=Endobronchial%20valve%20.
I do hope you find this information addresses some of your concerns.
          Warm regards,
          Leon (site moderator COPD.net)
