When is it time to consider going on disability for COPD?

I just spent 3 days in the hospital with a flare-up. Still having symptoms requiring nebs. I have an office job at a hospital. I still want to work but the walk from the parking lot to the office is getting harder. My latest spirometry lung volume decreased to 2.05% from 2.18% six months prior. Thanks in advance for your advice!

  1. Hi Shrte6131 - I'm sorry to hear of your recent hospital stay. I can understand why you'd be concerned about how much longer you can work.

This is certainly a subject you should bring up with your pulmonologist. They will have the best knowledge of your circumstances to give you advice and perhaps make suggestions.

One thing you might want to consider right away is asking about a parking spot closer to the building. That may be an interim solution.

I thought you might find this article helpful as well: https://copd.net/living/applying-social-security-disability-benefits/
