COPD and back pain?

I have COPD, Afib, and arthritis. I am constantly fatigued. I don’t know which condition is causing my back pain. Does COPD cause back pain? I was diagnosed approx 2 yrs ago and have no symptoms other than shortness of breath.

  1. I have back pain right under my right shoulder blade. It only hurts when I’m exerting myself and breathing hard

    1. thanks for joining the conversation here! Have you had the chance to speak with your doctor about this? All the best, Sam S. (COPD.net, team member).

As far as your comment from earlier today, sometimes it can be difficult to determine which illness is responsible for which symptom. That is part of the challenge of being a physician/diagnostician, right!?
It's understandable that with COPD, atrial fibrillation, and arthritis, you might be feeling fatigued on a fairly regular basis. Each disease/condition, in its own way, can cause a certain level of fatigue.
To answer your question whether COPD causes back pain - the answer will depend on the patient, the disease and, how the disease affects each individual patient. We actually have a wealth of material, published right here on COPD.net, which focuses on that very topic. For your convenience, here is a link to several of those articles: https://copd.net/search?s=COPD%20back%20pain. I do hope you find the information is helpful in a practical way.

    1. Just got done with my bronchoscope. Apparently they were able to remove several plugs. Hopefully this will help for awhile. Thank you!

      1. That sounds like it would be helpful! How are you feeling now that it's been a couple days? -Melissa, copd.net team

      2. thanks. I still feel pretty good and yes the pain with exertion is definitely not as evident. Since I don’t seem to cough much, I’m making myself cough when I remember too. I’m afraid of my airways getting plugged up again and I’m uncertain how long they will stay clear. So much to Learn about this disease.
