Causes

After doc examined me he said my heart is working too hard because l had a flare up. Has anyone else had this? I am so worried

  1. ,
I have not had this type of scenario. Did your doctor offer any solutions? Is your doctor a general practitioner or a pulmonologist? I am not a doctor, but it sounds to me like you need a flare up plan to execute when a flare up happens. If indeed a flare up is the cause of your heart working too hard. If your doctor is a general partitioner, you should ask your doctor for a referral to a pulmonologist. A pulmonologist would be able to answer your questions and help get you a plan to execute during a flare up. Take care and God Bless.

    1. Without knowing exactly what the doctor said, I can't speculate too much. But, remember the heart and lungs are closely connected. If our lungs have to work harder that means the heart has to work a little harder.
What did the doctor suggest? Depending on the actual problem there can be many solutions, so don't be too anxious. Once you can get the flare-up under control your heart will benefit as well.
Here's an article that I think will be helpful regarding COPD and your heart: https://copd.net/clinical/improve-heart-health

      1. Thank you for replying. I am conjested and l'm terrified l have a heart problem. Can it mean this flare up has caused a temporary heart problem. What are the treatments for this? Can it get better?

      2. Hi Benny, and thanks for being a part of this conversation. I see my colleague, , has already responded to your post with excellent suggestions as well as a good reference article on heart health. I do hope you'll have an opportunity to read the material.
I also have something to contribute. Your concerns are valid but, as Lyn suggested, once your lungs improve (from the flare-up), and the congestion eases up, one would expect the heart, (which is responding to the flare-up), to improve as well.
To be sure and to ease your concerns, you may want to discuss this at length with your physician. The doctor will be able to explain more about your present medical condition. As well, the doctor will be able to explain further what was meant by the words 'your heart is working too hard...'
I agree with Lyn, too - try to stay calm, monitor your condition, and seek out more of an explanation from your doctor.
        What do you think?
